As an academic science and maths tutor I have over 10 years teaching and tutoring experience. I currently teach science part time at a high school in Wales, which allows me to keep up-to-date with the ongoing changes with the National Curriculum. I teach biology, chemistry and physics to GCSE level and maths at key stage 2 and 3.
All tutoring is done online, I use Google Meets and Google Classroom to teach all my online students. Google Meets allows us to chat face to face via video link and also alows me to share my screen and whiteboard. Google Classroom alows me to set homework or assignments and provide my students with feedback and additional resources they would not ususally get with a regular tutoring session. Each student will have their own login for Google Classroom and resources will be tailored and personal to them.
Many of my students work on developing their knowledge and confidence at GCSE level or boosting their understanding of maths at key stage 2 and 3. I also teach exam preparation and intensive revision sessions during exam periods. In addition I currently have a number of students who are preparing for high school. I work with these students in developing their confidence and resiliance to ensure that their high school fears are allieviated.
Due to current pandemic I have reduced the cost of all tutoring sessions to £20.

We have a dedicated covid secure classroom. We have an extremely comprehensive equipment store to cover all the experiments for GCSE and A level Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). This enables the students to take part in experiments which enhances their learning.
Since the lockdown, our response was to transition, virtually overnight, our teaching online. The tutor’s hands became the student’s hands and the cameras their eyes, the microphone and speakers became their voice and ears. With the power of a broadcast switcher, the student did not have one view but many, depending on what was needed. In addition, we decided to live stream tutorials on YouTube going through GCSE and A level Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, topic by topic, week by week utilising all our equipment for experiments. A typical session will involve a short review of previous work and a mix of explanation, verbal questions and exam-style questions to check understanding. Students will complete work during the session using Google Jamboard. This approach will be changed where the tutor judges this is necessary for the ideas being covered or to meet the needs of the Student.
Students may need to print questions so they will need access to a printer.
I have taught Chemistry at a large Leicestershire 14-18 School for over 30 years. I have been Head of Chemistry at this school for 20 years. I teach AQA GCSE Chemistry and AQA A-Level Chemistry. I have also taught Nuffield A-Level Chemistry. I have tutored AQA, EDEXCEL, OCR and OCR(Salters) A-Level Chemistry and AQA and OCR GCSE Chemistry. I have tutored students outside of school for 26 years with much success. Many of my A-level students have achieved 100% in A-level Chemistry modules and I have tutored many GCSE students who have achieved 100% in all their GCSE modules for GCSE Chemistry. Both these roles have helped me to recognise the difficulties that students have with both GCSE and A-level examination questions and the way to answer them successfully. My approach is variable depending on the ability of the student and what they are struggling on at the time. However I believe that the practicing of past paper questions is vital for examination success. It is the attention to detail which counts in an examination and I make sure all of my students know everything in the syllabus and have practiced lots of different styles of examination question. I tutor online using Skype, Zoom, Teams and FaceTime usually texting, emailing or messaging students examination practice questions which works really well. At the moment all my tutoring is online.
