English Literature Tutor, Teacher
Hello, my name is James, a Montessori qualified educator, offering rich, creative, imaginative lessons drawing on years of experience as a teacher and consultant in order to bring the curriculum to life, each lesson tailored to the specific needs and interests of the child.
After co-founding my own Montessori childcare setting in Bristol, which I ran as the lead teacher for 3 and a half years, (2017 - 2020) I went on to offer webinars for parents and educators as a consultant with Montessori Centre International (2020-2021), the training college I completed my diploma with. I have continued working as an independent consultant in the period since, with specific focus on embedding the UN's Sustainable Development Goals into the curriculum in new and exciting ways, primariily for children aged 7+ through project based learning.
Drawing on Montessori Pedagogy and Philosophy I know through my own lived experience the entire curriculum can be successfully taught to the child by observing their interests and creating lessons that directly inspire their heart and imagination, increasing curiosiry and engagement in the classroom. E.g. if I observe a child of four with a fascination for dinosaurs I can use this as a jumping off point to teach Literacy, Storytelling, Phonics, Mathematics, Handwriting, Geography, Geology, Anatomy, Animal Kingdoms, Plant Kingdoms, Chemistry, History, and infinitum! All through a play based learning approach. For a child of seven with a love of babies we can teach World Cultures, Life Cycles, Human Geography, Physical Geography, History, Economics (tourism industry), English Language, and infinitum! This is the perfect age to provoike inquiry based learning and critical thinking, the child fascinating with 'How' and 'Why' questions. This deep thinking level curiosity ought to be encouraged at every opportunity. Teaching need not be as boring as sitting down and saying, "now we're doing this," we insire the imagination through movement, storytelling, big questions, provocative statements, laughter, humour, the joy of learning and exploration. The child will move seemlessly through the curriculum, ticking the boxes of all the Key Stages and more; because in Montessori we teach the universe, the cosmic education, as I navigate through Maria Montessori's 'Great Lessons' from the Big Bang, to The Story of Numbers (#MakingMathsExcitingAgain).
Your children will have a lot of fun with Montessori James, as I am also a trained professional clown, so we will have fun with humour and playfulness.

I originally trained and worked as a secondary school English teacher, but I found the pressure in schools led to teachers being overwhelmed with paperwork and the teaching element almost became a lesser priority. Now I prefer to focus on private tuition where my primary aim is teaching and enabling students to achieve. At Perfect Plus Tutoring, we strive to create an academic atmosphere which is enjoyable as well as beneficial. I offer private tuition to students in North Kent, Medway and Maidstone areas.
I have a team of tutors who are all DBS checked and either currently teach or have taught in schools.

As mentioned, I'm currently a student who is about to enter Sixth Form at the beginning of the next academic term. As a teacher, l portray myself to be very calm, considerate and patient. I have developed such a diverse skillset from being both a proud older sibling and an incredible teacher to many of my friends and relatives of whom would reinforce my words. Likewise, I'm a very friendly, caring and understanding young lady who enjoys developing new connections and supporting others to the best of my abilities! This is reflected in my style of teaching as I enjoy elaborating further on points students may not quite grasp at first glance as well as providing a fun and inclusive environment where students on feel they are able to work to their full potential without fear of judgement for whatever reason! Although I'm just entering Sixth Form, l believe that my teaching capabilities are just as elaborate and enlightening as someone of a higher qualification. As an aspiring teacher, l acquire excellent communication skills which allow students to feel comfortable in the created learning environment moreover they're more likely to thrive with a humerous and thoughtful teacher. Therefore, l hope that you entrust me to provide quality education to your child while also developing their social skills and general confidence. Thank you for reading!

I am a qualified English teacher and have been teaching English literature and language GCSE in a secondary school for over 10 years. I am also curriculum lead and have a wide understanding and experience in the support a student needs to develop their skills for English studies. Due to COVID-19 I may aware of the need for online teaching for students who are absent from school and may need the additional support at home to enhance their development for English GCSE. My teaching will provide this support for students.

My teaching career started in Moscow, where I worked for 8 years with adults and kids of all levels. My experience in Russia gave me the opportunity to study a foreign language, so I have a deep understanding of the frustrations and difficulties of language acquisition. I still attend online Russian classes, so I know exactly how it feels to be an online language learner. In 2011, I returned to the UK and started working freelance as an online English tutor. I found students by making videos on YouTube, and anyone who is interested in my teaching methodology should watch some of my lessons. I now have more than 500 English lessons on my YouTube channel.
For the last 4 years, I have been teaching English grammar to hundreds of UK English teachers as part of a Skills and Knowledge Enhancement course (SKE), funded by the Department for Education. In these classes, I give my colleagues tips on how to identify parts of speech, how to punctuate phrases and clauses, and how to recognize rhetorical devices. I have enjoyed this opportunity immensely, as it has provided me with a better insight into the nuances of English grammar.
I have also written two books over the last few years. One of these books is aimed at TEFL students, and deals with vocabulary (Visual Phrasal Verbs), while the other is written for natives, and deals with grammar and punctuation.
I teach English as a Foreign Language to all ages, levels, and nationalities. I am a big fan of the communicative approach, so my online classes are geared towards sharpening your speaking skills; in each lesson, I encourage students to retell an English book or film that they have recently seen, while I listen carefully and correct the mistakes. For many repeated mistakes, I simply make a gesture to let the student know about the error, and in this way, students get the chance to correct their own mistakes. During the classes, I make notes on any errors and new vocabulary, and I send a copy of this lesson feedback after the class. For homework, I set reading, writing, and grammar tasks. I also give links to YouTube videos from my channel, in which I explain the grammar or vocabulary topic in great detail so that students have access to my explanations, even when we are not physically 'in a lesson'. In addition to hundreds of online video lessons, I have a vocabulary book for learning phrasal verbs.
I also teach grammar to natives who would like to deepen their understanding of punctuation and rhetoric. I use my own course book, which focuses on how to identify different grammatical structures in typical GCSE texts (Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, Frankenstein, 1984). This course has been extremely popular among the teachers that I work with. I am confident that I can teach the same course to anyone that wants to improve their use of English.

I am patient, enthusiastic, self-motivated and reliable and have developed a sound rapport with my students. I have come to teaching as a career changer later in life, having worked in the PR/journalism industry for a number of years, which has held me in good stead and provides life experience outside the classroom and curriculum. You will find me to be an affable, good-humoured and dedicated tutor with an engaging manner and a creative and diligent approach to planning tasks and lessons.
