About Me
I hold a first class BMus (Hons) degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I began teaching around my studies in 2009 and have been teaching piano full time since 2018. I'm originally from Carmarthen and have just moved back to Wales from Birmingham where I had a fully booked timetable of private students.
I have a wide range of performance experience across different genres and settings. I have been a member of many orchestras and wind bands, including the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales. I have also played with big bands, contemporary music groups and a ska band. I have performed at concert halls, gigged in pubs, accompanied choirs in churches and had music I composed performed by professional ensembles.
My Teaching Experience and Approach
I have experience of teaching people from age 5 all the way up to 80+, from beginner up to post grade 8 level. I’m flexible in my approach to teaching as I know everyone has different needs, interests and goals. In addition to my private students I have taught at The Birmingham Music School, The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Brynhyfryd Music Teaching Studios and Broadway Academy.
My aim is to make lessons fun! Playing the piano has had such a positive impact on my life and I hope to share this enthusiasm with others. It’s a wonderful skill to have that can provide happiness and enjoyments throughout your life. Students will learn to play music from a range of genres, read notation, develop their aural skills, play duets and learn about music theory and history. My students have a 100% pass rate in practical and theory exams with many achieving high grades. I mainly use ABRSM but I'm also happy to work with Trinity, LCM, Rockschool or MTB if this better suits the needs of the student. However exams aren't compulsory, I can also help you develop as a musician without the pressure of exams.
I also offer music theory tuition to help students prepare for their grade 5 theory exams. Almost all of my theory students have gone on to pass this with distinction.

Hello! I'm a music teacher with 5 years of experience and I specialise in harmony/theory, composition, and jazz improvisation. Whether you/ your child is a complete beginner, or you're a professional musician looking to 'add more musical ingredients to the cupboard', or anywhere inbetween, I'd love to hear from you so we can sort out a free taster lesson.
If you are completely new to music, the piano/keyboard (or the drums) is the best place to start. The layout of the keyboard forms the basis for our understanding of harmony and theory, without which, learners of instruments (other than drums) will be at a significant disadvantage.
Things I can help with:
- inspiring young beginners to take up music-making, with a joyful, creative and holistic approach.
- electric bass (bass guitar) lessons, beginner to intermediate
- saxophone lessons, beginner to advanced
- provide a method and structure to beginner/intermediate students looking to take the next step with piano, saxophone, or electric bass
- inspire teens and adults to delve into the world of music with no prior experience
- help intermediate - advanced pianists develop better technique, up to grade 8 level
- provide a comprehensive training in jazz harmony, advanced rhythm, classical composition, songwriting, or improvisation
Things I can't help with:
- Diploma-level classical piano
- Advanced virtuoso electric bass
- Forcing students to learn things they are not interested in
- Forcing students to try to play things they are not yet ready for
- Someone who is looking for the traditional 'strict piano teacher' who doesn't let you choose your own music, punishes you for making mistakes, and has a rigid teaching style that is not adapted to each student
1-1 teaching in Piano, Violin, Saxophone and Trumpet in Cardiff as well as maths tutoring. I would be happy to teach multiple instruments to the same person at a reduced price for the second. I am experienced in my instruments and so far have taught trumpet and maths so I have experience in teaching children. I have grade 8 qualifications in all 4 instruments and study piano at Cardiff University School of Music. I have an A* mathematics A-level and completed two years of mathematics at Cardiff University before I decided to pursue music further instead. Price shown is per hour but lessons are avaiable from 30 minutes to 90 minutes.

I have been tutoring for the last 24 years all ages and ABRSM grades, inspiring them to learn and play four hands repertoire, as well as preparing for ABRSM exams. Hi my name is Laura. I have always enjoyed music and I believe it is one of the best ways you can express yourself as an individual. I started learning the electronic keyboard at the age of 11 at a music school, later migrating to piano in my teens. My obsession with music continued all to the way through to my late teens and early 20s when I later graduated with a Bachelor's Degree with Honours at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. While studying music at university, I was lucky to receive expert tuition from Jazz Pianist and composer Chris Ingham. Since graduation I always wanted to be in a funk or soul band and even now regularly turn up to jazz gigs and jams and play at open mics as I feel its so important to keep your music fresh and learn off other people.
I have been teaching piano as a peripatetic and private teacher since I left University, so when I was 21 years old.
I was really lucky to experience tuition in such a contemporary, 'non stuffy' manner, I truly believe this is the way music should be taught. There's nothing worse than dull piano lessons! Music is like a language, we learn it through the art of doing. I believe in teaching music in a friendly, non-fussy way and I like to bring out the best in my students by tailoring their lessons around them and their goals. I started Piano at age 5 and immediately felt a natural connection with it. I shortly acheived grade 8 piano with distinction 5 years later aged 10.
