I have been teaching Spanish for over 20 years at secondary level; I am currently Subject Leader for Spanish at my current school and I have a wealth of experience preparing students for GCSE and A level examinations. I am also an examiner for two major exam boards with in depth knowledge of the A level and GCSE curriculums. I have also been a tutor and a teacher for Adult learners as well as teaching Spanish at University level (Durham University) for 3 years.

My name is Alla and I am an experienced language tutor of English as a foreign language, Spanish and Russian.

All children learn in different ways with different methods and i adapt my tutoring for each child to make them enjoy the classes and get the most out of the 60 minutes. In my first year of teaching my Year 11 pupils jumped up 2 grades from a 6 in Higher Biology to an 8. I pride myself on being adaptive, compassionate but firm with my exam techniques.

In Latin, the grammar based language study is backed up with a fun and detailed look at the historical period and the set texts. We all have differing learning needs and goals which are worked out well in advance of the first lesson so that the approach is tailor made for you so that you ultimately find the learning experience a rewarding and enjoyable one. When teaching , I use my experience of being an examiner to show you what the exam paper is really asking for and how you can ensure you get the marks and ,quite easily, exceed target. I come from a trilingual family and have spoken Spanish, Portuguese and English since childhood. I studied languages as part of my undergraduate degree at the University of Leeds, obtaining a first class BA in History with Spanish and Portuguese.
After a decade working in law, I returned to my language roots and qualified as a languages teacher in 2018. I taught Spanish for three years to London secondary school students, focusing on GCSE and A Level exam preparation. I also worked additionally as a Portuguese GCSE speaking examiner during exam season, something which I continue to do today. I am a qualified Spanish teacher with over 13 years of experience. In 2010 I completed a MA in teaching Spanish as a Second Language and then completed a PGCE course to teach Spanish and French in English schools. Since 2011, I have been teaching in secondary schools. In 2012 I became Head of Spanish in a London school and in 2018 I became Deputy Head of Languages at a school in Surrey. Most recently, I worked as Head of MFL and as an examiner for GCSE Spanish exams. Moving onto the main part of the lesson I plan activities promoting fluency in the skill then application to a real-life situation or worded exam-style question.
