Hi everyone! I'm Carys, a passionate student about to start University. I'd love to be able to share my love of learning with you all, from teaching English literature/language, German, Psychology and History for GCSEs, or Psychology A Level!

I did my PGCE in German with French which involved the usual two teaching practices. I completed these in two comprehensive schools. Since gaining QTS in my first teaching job in 2005, I have taught German, French and Spanish in three secondary schools, all at Keystages 3, 4 and 5. I am currently employed teaching all three of these languages in an independent school.
I believe that, in the drive to raise pupil confidence in speaking and general communication, there has been a decline in rigorous grammar teaching. My feeling is that knowing the grammatical foundations of a language well, in the long run, provides a basis upon which to build and therefore facilitates more confident and accurate communication. I try to strike a balance between sound reinforcement of the fundamentals whilst nurturing curiosity in the learner to try things out, manipulating language across contexts. With German in particular I like to offer an insight into the culture of the country and my time living in Germany enables me to bring the language "out of the page". I really enjoy teaching and like to engage my pupils so that they feel comfortable to ask questions. I also inject a little humour into my delivery, which has enhanced my teaching and boosted relationships. Mine is a safe place for learners to develop.

I was Head of German for 9 years at Marlborough College and have worked at Marlborough College Malaysia (Economics teacher), Pangbourne College and am now at Godolphin and Latymer School in Hammersmith.
I am currently using Zoom, Teams, Skype and Facetime to teach my tutees but I would usually teach at my house. I was an ice skating professional and teacher and then did a degree and a teaching certificate. I have been in my current day-time job teaching in a sixth form college since 1989. I tutor English Language, English Literature, Drama, Languages, Dance, Performing Arts and Maths. I attended Tiffin Girls' Grammar when I was young. I prepare tutees for 11+ and entrance exams. I am a senior examiner, a moderator and a Lead Verifier. I have co-authored 5 text books and write regularly for Drama and Performance magazine.
I qualified in teaching primary school subjects and French at Homerton college Cambridge in 1976. I continued to teach in primary schools and went on to teach secondary French and German. After having a family I then qualified in TESOL to all age groups specialising in phonics and listening and speaking. Latterly, I have taught English and subject support to International students at a girl,s boarding school St George' s school, Ascot. I am keen to offer support to the National Tutoring program to help children who have missed out on their education due to lockdown. I am especially interested in becoming a Teaching Assistant and helping in teaching reading, writing and primary and GCSE French.

My family was living in England before I was born, however, my mum would travel to Germany very often due to her family living there, and therefore I was born in Bochum, Germany.
